ELEGANT, DISCREET AND REFINED, OVERLOOKING ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL AND MAJESTIC SQUARES IN THE WORLD: PIAZZA NAVONA
No introduction is needed for this charming square with its unique elliptical shape, the undisputed symbol of the city of Rome.
Its oval shape is due to its origins: in ancient Rome it was in fact, the Stadio Domiziano, built by order of the emperor himself in the first century after Christ, it could accommodate up to 30,000 spectators.
In the years that followed, Piazza Navona became a symbol of baroque Rome. Rich in architectural influences of great masters and decorated with sculptures by artists of excellence. Examples are Gian Lorenzo Bernini and the Fountain of the Four Rivers in the centre of the square, Francesco Borromini and Girolamo Rainaldi who built the church of Sant'Agnese in Agone in front of the fountain by Bernini, and Pietro da Cortona, creator of the frescoes in the gallery of Palazzo Pamphili. It's also an important meeting point for street artists who consider Piazza Navona to be a place of performance and folkloristic activities, making this place rich in artistic spirit and worldliness. Piazza Navona is also known and appreciated for its wonderful and charming Christmas market.
